Deinove's competitive advantage

Bioethanol production is essentially based on the performance of a biocatalyst: brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast is relatively efficient but has a number of significant limitations - notably its inability to operate at high temperatures or to hydrolyse complex carbohydrates. Deinove is working to develop a more competitive biocatalyst - a bacterial strain from the genus Deinococcus which could replace conventional yeast.

Deinove's competitive advantage stems from its innovative approach to developing a micro-organism that is perfectly suited to industrial fermentation. After have identified and characterized extremely robust bacteria, Deinove is now in a position to optimize the strains' metabolism and improve their fermentation capacities much more simply than is possible for yeast, E. coli or other micro-organisms like Clostridia.
